Chapter 1… The Beginning Of The End

At 2:45am my eyelids finally became heavy. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity I was, at last, about to fall asleep. It was 3:00 am when I was awaken by loud and non subtle knocks on my window. Now of course, as anyone in my place would be, I was pissed. It took me about five minutes to finally reach the window.

“WHAT!” I shouted as opened the window.

“Damn! Calm down.” Taylor whispered as he climbed into my room.

“I just fell asleep, what the fuck do you want?”

“Sorry…” he said as he adjusted his clothes.

“I’m waiting.” I yawned as I continued “What do you want?”

“Can I crash here?” he made a puppy dog face then added “Please.”

“What?” I shook my head “Just go home Taylor.”

He brushed some hair out of my eyes then said “I can’t.”

I hate it when he tries to flirt to get what he wants; I slapped his hand away then asked “Why not?”

“I just can’t.”

“That excuse doesn’t fly with me, I can’t! What the hell is that? Just go home.” I walked back to my bed and threw myself back under the covers.

He bit his lip “Alright, if I tell you… will you promise you’ll let me stay?”

“If it’s good then I’ll consider it.” I mumbled.

Making himself comfortable Taylor tossed off his jacket and shoes then crawled under the blankets with me, as he did so many times before. Taking a deep breath Taylor began “I don’t like to be under the same roof as Walker.”

That was nothing new “But he’s your dad.”

“No he’s not.”

“Taylor…”

Before I could get another word in he continued “I don’t want to hear it, you don’t know what it’s like for me. All you hear about is Zac’s side, how Walker takes him to sporting games, buys him whatever he wants. Walker knows Zac is the easiest to get to and he takes full advantage of it. He’s no fucking dad! Dads don’t bribe you for you love, they don’t pay for your drug addiction and they certainly don’t go into your bedroom at night looking for a fuck.”

It took a minute to process what he had just said. “Are you serious?” I asked

The tears in his eyes answered my question.

“You have to report him”

He shook his head

“Then tell Dianna.”

I could barley hear him say “I can’t.”

“Why cant you?”

“They wouldn’t believe me.”

“You don’t know that”

“Look Dianna’s head over heals in love with him, and on top of that she yells at me everyday because as she puts it, I’m a “male whore”. Oh yeah and your on again/off again, lover boy/best friend tried to kick my ass cause I called Walker a fag. None of them would believe me.”

“What about Ike?”

“He’s too fucked up from the LSD to tell.”

“You should try talking to your mom, she might believe you.”

“Come on Angel, don’t be naive you’ve been to my house before. You see how they treat me. None of them give a shit. They wouldn’t believe me”

“Don’t say that.”

“It’s true and you know it” he wiped away the free falling tears.

He was right, even before his dad came back Taylor wasn’t the favorite of anyone’s. Dianna gave up on him when he was 13, after she caught him having sex in the backyard tree house, twice. Then there’s Zac, never the first person to rush to Taylor’s side, always believing the worst in him. It’s no wonder Taylor won’t tell them.

I closed my eyes then took a deep breath “I don’t know what to say.”

Placing his head on my shoulder Taylor effortlessly tossed his arm over my stomach “Say you’ll let me stay.”

“Like I was gonna kick you out.”

He lifted his head, kissed my cheek then said “Thanks.”
