Got a Hold On Me

Chapter 1-Change

Everything about Westwood Prep oozed of wealth. From the brick add-on wings, to the newly named library, the place practically reeked of parental bribery. I have to admit, I was jealous. My mom couldn’t even afford the plane ticket to send me out here. To say this place was out of my league would certainly be an understatement.
So how did I make it in to this prestige nationally acclaimed high school? Well it wasn’t easy believe me, I had to take hundreds of tests, fill out more then my fair share of scholarship applications and take on two summer jobs.
I received word of my acceptance the end of my eighth grade year, which was over a year ago, but I was unable to come up with the money until last semester. Now I’m here, I’m actually on campus and officially enrolled. My dream had finally come true.
****
I was in awe by the campus, the air smelled fresher, the grass was definitely greener and the buildings, they looked just like European castles. I couldn’t believe I would actually be studying here or living here for that matter.
I grabbed my luggage out from the cab and headed down the stone path leading to the center of the campus. The campus was packed with students and various family members. Most of the students were huddled around talking, hugging, greeting each other as if they haven’t talked in years. Very few others were like me, walking around aimlessly. I felt relieved to notice that I wasn’t the only one there without my family.
I soon found my way to the Northern Hall, which held all the important offices that I needed to visit before I made my way to the dorms. The building alone was as big as my old school maybe bigger if you could believe that. As i stepped inside i was in awe, I had never before seen such a beautiful office. The seats alone were leather, the curtains were silk and the statue looked like they were pure gold.
“Can I help you?”
Suddenly i was yanked out from my thoughts.
The lady behind the desk looked like she was in her mid twenty’s, her hair was tied in a lose pony tail and she wore a thin rimmed pair of glasses. “Is there something you need?” she asked again.
“Yes.” I nodded as i took a step towards her desk “I’m Jude Dayne, I’m here to talk to the Sophomore Counselor.”
She nodded then began to type something on here computer. “Mrs. York will see you shortly.” She said before handing me a piece of paper “You may have a seat and wait.”
“Thanks” i said i took a glance at the paper she handed me, obviously it was a list of my classes.
I took a seat in the first available chair near the window. The other students carried on as if i wasn’t even around. That was something i had actually gotten use to. I tried not to listen as they spoke but some of what they were saying managed to catch my attention.
“Yeah I’ve been wondering if he’d return this semester too.” the girl sitting directly to my left whispered with a giggle. “He’s the cutest guy here. It would be a shame to lose him.”
Obviously she’s shallow.
“There’s no scandal big enough to keep him off this campus.” the other girl said in a mater of fact tone as she tossed her hair.
“True.” the first girl said as she bit her lip in thought. No doubt day dreaming of this no named hot guy.
The second girl raised an eyebrow and whispered darkly “What i really want to know is whose going to be his next victim?”
“Victim?” the first girl laughed “I hope to god it’s me.”
I rolled my eyes and tried to focus on something else. Sadly there chatting continued and my focus on the Japanese Statue just outside the window could only last so long.
“Could you imagine, you and him?” the second girl scooted closer “He could get us into the confession.”
The confession? now i was intrigued.
“Oh My GOD! i hadn’t even thought of that.” She said in excitement “The Confession! I can only imagine what an event like that would be like.”
“Well there would definitely be lots of drugs, drinks, sex and of course diamonds but there’s got to be something to the name. I hate that it’s all hush hush.”
“You know you wouldn’t hate it if you were apart of it.” the first girl teased.
“True.” she smirked “but i have a feeling this is our year, we will go to the confession, And your going to be our ticket in.”
She sure was optimistic.
“God i wish Carol would hurry up.” the first girl said impatiently “I’m two seconds away from leaving her ass here and finding my man.”
Her man? wow so this is what stalkers are like in person.
“I’m sure she’ll be out soon. Scholar ship students usually get the third degree on there first day here anyway. ”
That’s refreshing.
“Shhhh….” she said harshly “Don’t say that too loud.”
“Sorry.” the second girl said in a tone that obviously suggested she wasn’t.
“Jude Dayne.” My head shot up. The woman behind the desk smiled at me “You may head to room D16, it’s upstairs second door to the right.”
I nodded then sat up from my seat. As I walked away I could vaguely hear the girls return the topic to the Confession. I quietly laughed to myself as i thought about the girls, clearly they were delusional. If the rest of the girls here were like this then this was going to one long and crazy year.
Slowly my mind went back to the third degree remark one of the girls made. I was officially nervous.
