Got a Hold On Me

Chapter 5

“OH MY GAWD! Were you just taking to Taylor?” Emily asked, jumping into the now vacant seat beside me, her eyes wide with curiosity.
“Hey Emily, yeah that was him.” I said, hoping I didn’t sound too excited.
“I thought you said you didn’t know any guys here?”
“I don’t,” I replied, still in disbelief “he just started talking to me.”
She looked dumbfounded.
“Is something wrong?”
She shook her head “It’s just… do you know how many girls here, who’ve been wishing for him to “just start talking” to them.” She placed her hand on mine trying to emphasize her point “Almost every girl on campus wants him.”
“Really?” I bit my lip. Wow. So he must be the guy those girls from earlier were talking about.
“Yeah, he’s one of the single most popular guys here. He like owns this school.”
I highly doubted that.
“He’s got that bad boy charm.” She said, half in a day dream state.
I coughed hoping to get her back to reality “Bad boy charm?”
“Oh, yeah. You’re new, so I’ll give you the full 411 on everything I know about him.” She tossed her hair over her shoulder in preparation “Taylor’s from old money, his grandparents totally paid for this building.”
I looked around, as if looking for a sign of conformation.
“His parents donated money for the new science wing, they paid in full for the library renovations and his dad is on the board of directors.”
So she wasn’t over emphasizing the whole ‘owns the school’ thing.
“Last year he was in a huge scandal.” She practically salivated as she continued “From what I heard he was caught locked up in the art directory with a few junior and senior class men, and enough drugs and alcohol to supply the whole school.”
“Are you serious?”
She nodded “But I’m not done. None of them were expelled, suspended or anything. Mr. Lorence took the fall for all of it.”
“Mr. Lorence?” I questioned.
“Art teacher.” She waved her hand as if to say he wasn’t important. “After that scandal, Taylor was in a brief romance with Kristie Hertz. She was a senior, very pretty, had long legs, blond hair, blue eyes the works.”
I hated her already.
“Every since her junior year here, his freshmen, she was in love with him. Like head over heals, she like totally went into full on stalker mode whenever she had the chance. He knew but he really didn’t care. So when they got together last year it was like a huge shock, no one believed her when she first told people they were dating. Then when it became obvious that they really were together everyone thought he was using her, but I think he really did kind of like her.” Taking a deep breath she continued “Anyways, like two or three weeks after they got together she started to get really bossy and just plain possessive. She would start crying when he would talk to another girl. She’d yell when he wasn’t paying attention to her. She like totally flipped out. So needless to say he dumped her.”
“Wow.”
“I’m not done,” she took a chug of her drink before continuing “He dumped her at her senior prom.”
That’s just wrong.
“From what I hear, she flipped out because he danced with someone else.” she adjusted her seat and scooted a little closer “He dumped her twenty minutes into the dance, she flipped out crying and begged him to forgive her but he just walked off leaving her crying on the dance floor.” Her voice now a whisper, “A few minutes after that they found her body in the restroom.”
My jaw dropped “What?”
She nodded and said with a shrug “Girl was crazy, turns out she was bi-polar and hadn’t been taking her pills. So when he dumped her she used them to overdose or something like that.”
“That’s so sad.”
“You’re telling me.” She said, in a hushed tone “By the next Monday he had another girlfriend.” She added “Or that’s what everyone says.”
